The president of the Midlands Hindu Society, Advocate Ranjiv Nirghin, has called on people of the Hindu faith to stem the tide of the sporadic violence gripping the country. “What are we going to do about the violence that seems to be permeating every aspect of our lives?” asked Nirghin.

He said there needed to be a sustained campaign to deal with this scourge. Nirghin was speaking at Aryan Hall where the society staged the 24th anniversary Hawan and a prayer for peace and end of violence. Dr. Muralidhar Panda was the guest speaker. Nirghin said a sustained programme was needed to change the mindset of some people. He said this would go a long way in alleviating the issue. He said as the geared up to a period of Navaratri, it should be easy for people to identify women as divine. “What is the justification for us to abuse women?” questioned Nirghin. He said he was aware that men were also at the receiving end of abuse. Nirghin argued that people have the power to change the world. “We just need to believe it. We need to look at ourselves and look at every action and take out that violence that we have within us,” he stressed. “As the Midlands Hindu Society, we seem to have a much bigger problem. We need to change ourselves for the better. If we change ourselves, then the country, continent and the world will change,” he said.
