The week-long visit will allow the Malaysian youths to meet and interact with locals from diverse social and cultural backgrounds to share viewpoints and exchange ideas.
Sherry Mahabeer, PRO for the Midlands Hindu Society (MHS), said exchange visits have been taking place between Malaysian and South African cultural and business leaders since 1996. “For the first time, a sizeable number of youths between the ages of 20 and 24 will visit Durban. The Midlands Hindu Society is proud to be hosting this group of youth on the Pietermaritzburg leg of their tour,” said Mahabeer.
The MHS extends an invitation to youths between the ages of 16 and 35 years to a meet-and-greet with the touring Malaysians on Saturday, August 31, at 1pm to be held at the Sri Siva Soobramoniar and Mariammen Temple Hall. Kindly contact Prashantha Ramesar on 079 9100 198 to book your place.
There will be a dialogue with local youth which will be broadcast live on Lotus FM on Sunday, September 1, at 2pm. The public can attend at the SABC’s M1 studio in KE Masinga Road, Durban from 1.45pm latest.

Thursday, August 29 – Welcome – an evening of song, music and dance will be staged at the revamped Pattundeen Theatre at the Aryan Benevolent Home in Chatsworth at 6:30pm.
Friday, August 30 – to celebrate Malaysian National Day, a variety concert showcasing Malaysian culture will take place at the Umhlanga Hindu Society Temple at 6pm.
Saturday, August 31 – youth of Pietermaritzburg are invited to a meet-and-greet hosted by the Midlands Hindu Society at the Sri Siva Soobramaniar and Marriammen Temple, Pietermaritzburg at 1pm.
Monday, September 2 – in celebration of Vinayager Chathurthi, a programme of song, dance and music will be performed by local and Malaysian youth at the Parasakthi Temple in Merebank from 6:45pm.
Tuesday, September 3 – A farewell concert will be hosted by the Kharwastan Temple Society in Oak Avenue, Kharwastan at 6:30pm.
