Midlands Hindu Society was founded to bring about Unity in Diversity and to ensure that we co-ordinate Hindu efforts for the benefit of the Hindu Community specifically and the community generally.
Concerned Hindus wanting to lend a helping hand brought it to our attention that there is a dire need for our community to have a joint response to assist indigent Hindu families with the funerals of their loved ones.
We have teamed up with service providers in the industry who have undertaken to offer their services at a highly reduced rate and to a large extent sponsor the services that they provide. The undertaker’s costs, and services, use of venue and transport, expertise and administration to ensure that all the necessary certification etc. is done to authorize the cremation is fully sponsored by Funeral Parlor Service Providers. We still have to meet certain basic costs for example the Crematorium Fees, Coffin, Private Doctors Fees, Flowers and Prayer Goods for the funeral rituals. Priests have offered their services free of charge.
Currently there is an average of 8 indigent funerals a month that are being funded by a few private individuals at an average of R 5000 per funeral, after discounts and sponsorships of services by service providers. It will cost about R 600 000 per annum. We intend collecting at least R 150 000 to kick off this initiative.
We plan on keeping this service as discreet and dignified as possible to ensure that the Seva is not abused. We are in the process of establishing guidelines for vetting purposes. All funds collected and spent in this regard will be accounted for monthly and audited annually.
