Advocate Ranjiv Nirghin, president of the Midlands Hindu Society, will soon assume the role of Hindu Maha Sabha president.
The position has been vacant since the death of Ashwin Trikamjee in March this year.
Trikamjee has left sizeable shoes to fill, having served not only as president of the South African Hindu Maha Sabha but also as a member of the National Religious Leaders Forum.
He was widely respected for promoting religious tolerance and was a practising Hindu priest.
Nirghin brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served as a board member of the Hindu Maha Sabha and as president of the Midlands Hindu Society for many years.
Like Trikamjee, Nirghin is a respected advocate, and has served as an acting judge of the high court. He has a strong human rights and social justice track record.
