On Saturday, 4th Aug 2018 the Pietermaritzburg City Hall lent opulence and splendour to the glitz and glamour of a star-studded evening when Midlands Hindu Society hosted its Annual Fundraising Dinner & Launch of the Msunduzi Diwali Festival 2018 in true Red Carpet style.
This year the much anticipated annual event embraced the IIFA Awards theme where patrons were given the taste of walking the Red Carpet and being treated like celebrities. The Pietermaritzburg City Hall with its richness and iconic presence proved to be the ideal venue. From the moment one entered the venue, one could not help but feel like a celebrity with Glow TV in attendance to capture the event.
Patrons were treated to a scrumptious 3-course vegetarian dinner whilst entertainment was provided by some of the city’s superstars in their own right, the multi-talented Ajesh Kumar and Nerissa Sewrathan who delivered on their promise. Members of the Midlands Hindu Society Youth Group showcased their ability to work together for a common cause when they provided the dance items for the evening’s program. Comic relief was provided by renowned stage and film actor Pranesh Maharaj who, together with well-known radio and stage personality, Anesh Dusrath left the audience wanting more. Program directors, Raj Dhanlal and Riona Rajkumar carried out their task to perfection and announced unsuspecting Award winners in true style.
ANC Provincial Chair, Sihle Zikalala delivered the keynote address and Midlands Hindu Society President, Ranjiv Nirghin commended him on being punctual thus allowing the function to start on time which showed great respect for his duty to the people and was an indication of good things to come from the current leadership of the province.
There are members of the public and business community who have been supporting this event since its inception and going by Saturday’s display, it’s was easy to see why. Given that this is Midlands Hindu Society’s fundraising event, it also gave the Society the chance to launch the upcoming Msunduzi Diwali Festival which has become a flagship event on the City’s calendar of events where the community, business and the Municipality come together to celebrate our diversity and find the common thread that binds us together.
